Dominant
Decided to do a slightly different crop and edit of this shot from a recent Idaho trip. The real power of doing longer focal length tracked panoramas with a 50mm or 85mm lens is the cropping power you retain. My previous version of this shot was much wider and included reflections, but I felt like it lost the intimate nature of the Milky Way and really minimized the dramatic mountains. I went back and cropped out the edges and reflections, leaving just the dramatic mountains with the big core behind, giving a better sense of scale to those rugged peaks. Even with the heavy cropping this image still has an impressive resolution of over 10,000x7,000 pixels.
So, moral of the story, go longer if you can! You get more detail and more freedom to edit if you acquire good data!
